About Us

The Arabic word "qantara" means "bridge". The project Qantara.de is run by Deutsche Welle and involves the Goethe-Institut and the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations) as members of the project advisory committee. The project seeks to promote dialogue with the Islamic world and is funded by the German Foreign Office.

Deutsche Welle (DW) is Germany’s international broadcaster. DW conveys Germany as a nation rooted in European culture and as a liberal, democratic state based on the rule of law. DW is known for its in-depth, reliable news and information and promotes exchange and understanding between the world’s cultures and people.

The Goethe-Institut is the largest German cultural policy organization working outside Germany. The services it provides include cultural programs, language courses, libraries and information centers, visitors' programs, and much more.

The Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa – Institute for Foreign Relations) views itself as a service provider for foreign cultural policy, as an exhibitor, a future-oriented workshop for intercultural and civil-society dialog, and as an information exchange and archive of foreign cultural policy through its library and documentation center.

The Internet portal Qantara.de represents the concerted effort of the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Center for Political Education), Deutsche Welle, the Goethe Institut and the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations) to promote dialogue with the Islamic world. The project is funded by the German Foreign Office.
