Germany’s president Gauck makes a plea for ″mutual curiosity, empathy and trust″
On Monday Joachim Gauck, president of the Federal Republic of Germany, took part in a public Iftar held to break the day′s fast in Berlin′s Moabit neighbourhood. Residents, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, gathered for the celebrations.
Praising the hugely symbolic nature of the event, Gauck went on to call for similar levels of “mutual curiosity, empathy and trust″ within local communities. ″It′s an example of what we yearn for across the entire country: the peaceful co-existence of different creeds and colours.″ (Deutsche Welle)
