Moroccan photographer Leila Alaoui dies of injuries following Ouagadougou attack

Moroccan photographer Leila Alaoui, who was among those injured during the Ouagadougou terrorist attack last Friday night, has died, diplomatic sources in Burkina Faso announced earlier today.

A Moroccan diplomat based in Ouagadougou confirmed the sad news, adding that Morocco’s embassy in Ouagadougou had been following the case since the beginning.

“Leila suffered several heart attacks on Monday evening, which prevented her transfer to France. She was declared dead at 9.30 local time,” the political, economic and media counsellor of the Moroccan embassy in Ouagadougou told Morocco World News.

Leila Alaoui was seriously injured in the attack that targeted the Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s capital, on Friday night.

The Moroccan photographer, who was having dinner at Cappuccino restaurant when the assault started, was among those evacuated by the Burkinabe security forces from the hotel.    (Morocco World News)
