Italian imam posts photos of nuns on beach: FB account blocked

22.08.2016

The imam of Florence has posted a picture of habit-wearing nuns splashing along the seashore on Facebook, calling for dialogue about burkini bans… but got his account blocked instead. The post by Izzedin Elzir got some 2,700 shares, and came in response to the French southern cities – like Cannes and Nice – prohibiting the wearing of burkinis on the beach.

The day after the imam published his post, he awoke to find his account blocked.

″It′s incomprehensible. I have to send them an ID document to reactivate it. They wanted to make sure it′s my account – it′s a very strange procedure,″ the indignant imam told La Repubblica.

On Friday, his account was back in: the imam said he hopes it wasn′t blocked because of the picture, as it urges dialogue, and ″we live in a society of law and freedom.″

He also noted that the burkini had only come into fashion among Muslim women over the past few years and he expressed regret that ″some politicians in France, instead of responding to the political and economic needs of their citizens, are focusing on how Muslims dress.″

On Tuesday, Italy′s Interior Minister Angelino Alfano told Corriere Della Serra that Italy wouldn′t follow France′s suit and ban the burkini, but will step up regulations of imams and mosques.

Two days later, Italian authorities expelled the Tunisian imam Khairredine Romdhane Ben Chedli. The 35-year-old imam was lately absolved of terrorism-related charges, but still deemed unfit to remain in his post, the ANSA news agency said.    (Russia Today)

Unfortunately Matthew it is you that is wrong nuns are not members of the clergy. Clerics are ordained nuns (most certainly Catholic nuns) are not.

This just proves that Muslims have a wonderful sense of humour. Love it

What difference does it make if someone is part of the clergy?? Both dress up as they do because of how they live their religion. I am not a fan of Islam at all, however as long as you can see the faces, anybody should be allowed to dress up as they like. Part of everyones freedom of choice really and not hurting anyone.

Wearing a garment for religious reasons are religious reasons it does not matter that it is a uniform or not. It is worn for religious reason.

No One should be allowed to force others What they can or Can't wear Period #ShameOnFrance

Nuns CHOOSE to belong to a religious order, not forced to wear the habit. Most nuns do not wear the traditional habits anymore but are ALLOWED to wear it if they CHOOSE!
The key word is CHOOSE

How is it not The same as women wearing The burkini? You are saying because they re part of The clergy. Where is The law making this exception? But you are right, it is not The same thing, Nuns are not being bullied out of Europe, Muslims are.

Catholicim is a RELIGION just as ISLAM is. Catholic nuns of different congregations wear clothes to cover almost 90 percent of their body and hair in order not to be attracted to the opposite sex ( males / men ). They live in celibacy, they have special daily routines etc. Muslim women have their set of rules to live for their faith too. If nuns can choose to clothe in a certain way and live in a certain way so does MUSLIM women too. ITS EVERY WOMEN´S RIGHT TO CLOTHE AS THEY PLEASE. I"m a Catholic by faith but in this case I stand by the Muslim women! MANY RECENT EVENTS THROUGH OUT EUROPE SHOWS THE LACK OF WISDOM AMONG EUROPEAN LEADERS AND POLITICIANS IN GENERAL. We are all children of GOD.
