Libya's ex-premier Jibril dies of Covid-19

Libya's former prime minister Mahmoud Jibril died on Sunday after developing Covid-19, the respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus, Libyan media reported.

His death, in a Cairo hospital at the age of 68, was confirmed by his former party, the National Forces Alliance (NFA).

Jibril served as prime minister for eight months in 2011 after the eruption of an armed revolt that toppled Libya's long-time dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi.

The NFA offered its condolences to Jibril's family without specifying the cause of his death or where he passed away.

Late last month, the alliance said Jibril had tested positive for the coronavirus. (dpa)
